Is there an opposite to emergence?

The word emergence commonly expresses the idea that the whole is greater than the sum of its parts. The opposite idea would be that the part is greater than the sum. This might be true when looking at the part without considering the sum. The challenge for humanity then is to embrace emergence and it‘s opposite: to support and enhance our very diverse individuality while at the same time allowing emergence in community.
